Mission: Mission 1: Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: MD02 - 1000 Hours

Astrid Nilsson slowly and timidly walked into main Engineering. It had been the first time since she arrived on the ship, but she wanted to hand deliver her Ops report to the chief engineer. It had all been very standard first day on the Britannic, only a couple of problems which needed Ops to sort out. She just needed to find the Chief Engineer.

Ruxandra was monitoring the warp core at the pool table in the middle of main engineering when she spotted the operations officer walk past. Without looking up from what she was doing Ruxandra let the Lieutenant know that she'd seen her.

"How can I help you Lieutenant?" Ruxandra asked.

“Oh...erm...I-I’m just looking for the...erm...Chief Engineer. I-I have a r-report I want give to h-him or her.” Astrid replied all flustered. She didn’t like being put on the spot like that. It didn’t help that she didn’t have a clue what, the officer she was looking for, looked like.

Ruxandra responded. "I'm the Chief Engineer. If you could leave the report on the pool table I'll take a look at it - thank you for bringing it down"

“O-oh, ok.” Astrid said as she placed it where instructed. “I-I hope it’s ok, I-it’s the first time I’ve been acting head of a department so I’m just trying to do my best.” She added, before lowering her head and began to turn away to leave. Perhaps her simple existence wasn’t enough for the Chief Engineer to look at her report. Or maybe she was just busy.

Ruxandra didn't mean to come across as rude or dismissive - it's just she had to keep a close eye on what she was monitoring. Now that this wasn't required she called Astrid back to have a proper chat.

"Lieutenant? Come here a second please" Ruxandra said.

“Y-yes, Lieutenant.” Nilsson said as she turned back around and headed towards the chief engineer.

Ruxandra looked at Astrid who was clearly very nervous. The Romanian wanted to put her at ease and reassure her.

"Relax. We know this is your first time in charge of a department so things are a bit new to you in that respect and you're on a bit of a learning curve. If anyone thinks otherwise then you can send them my way. I'm sure the Captain and Commander Stephenson would have something to say about it too" Ruxandra replied.

“I-I just want to get things right. When I was assigned to the Britannic, I thought a Chief would already be in place. I just don’t think I’m ready for this.” Astrid replied quietly with a small quiver from her chin. “Everyone has been so nice, but I just don’t want to let any one down.”

Rux smiled. "And you're doing a very good so far. Actually - I was looking for someone to give me a hand with something. I need to prep two runabouts for the upcoming battle drill led by Commander Stephenson. I could do with some input from Operations so...are you in?"

Astrid gave the Chief Engineer a small smile, “Looks like I have to be, there’s no one else here to do it.”

"Excellent. Lead the way Lieutenant" Ruxandra replied.
